As treasurer he put BlackRock on an ESG watchlist in 2024 and, as an INPRS board member, voted to replace it as manager of a roughly $969 million portfolio; on the iVoterGuide questionnaire he gave consistently conservative answers on life, marriage, religious conscience, guns (no new restrictions), parental rights and voter ID.
- Life: Would allow abortion only when the mother's life is in imminent danger, strongly agreed that life deserves protection from conception, and opposes taxpayer funds for abortion providers.
- Family: Strongly agreed that marriage is one man and one woman, that parents direct their children's health and education, and that transitioning a child is child abuse.
- Religious liberty: Strongly disagreed that individuals and businesses should be required to provide services that violate their religious beliefs.
- 2nd Amendment: Answered that no gun restrictions are needed because the constitution protects the right to keep and bear arms.
- Limited gov’t: Strongly agreed with eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and strongly opposes voting without photo ID and sanctuary cities; opposes minimum-wage laws.
- Fiscal: Placed BlackRock on an ESG watchlist, voted to replace it on a state pension portfolio, and co-founded a 37-member state financial officers' coalition on the national debt.
